Who Should Book an RE Exam

Each of the four ASX RE Exams are relevant to specific roles; please read the exam information below to best identify which exam is applicable to you. However, generally the ASX RE exams are suitable for:

  • Responsible Executives of ASX Market Participants required to maintain compliance standards
  • those seeking to complete continuing professional development (CPD) hours for Securities and Derivatives Industry Association SDIA purposes
  • ASX Responsible Executives seeking broader roles.

Exam Information

The ASX RE Exams are written by the ASX, and administered and assessed by Kaplan Professional.

Successful completion of the ASX RE Exams will count towards four (4) hours of compliance related continuing professional development (CPD) for Securities and Derivatives Industry Association (SDIA) purposes.

The four ASX RE Exams are:

  • The ASX and ACH Responsible Executives (ASX/ACH RE) Exam
  • The ASX Markets Responsible Executives (ASX RE) Exam
  • The ASX Markets Responsible Executives Principal Trader only (ASXPT) Exam
  • The ACH Clearing and Settlement Responsible Executives (ACH RE) Exam.

Information specific to each exam are provided in this section.

To access the RE Exam you will need to log onto the “My Kaplan” section of the Kaplan website, you can use the login section at the top right hand side of the screen. If completing the exam in your office, ensure your computer has reliable internet access and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. You will need to bring your student ID and relevant password to the exam, otherwise your exam cannot begin. These will be provided once your application has been processed.

  • Note: Photo identification is required for all Kaplan exams.

The RE Exam will be waiting under your profile on the internet. The exam can only be accessed once and requires your supervisor to enter a high level password to start the exam. If the exam security has been breached in any way, Kaplan reserves the right to cancel the exam immediately.

Your supervisor will have complete instructions on how to access the exam. However, you MUST remember your student ID and password.

Exam conditions must be maintained at all times throughout the RE Exam. No access to printers, mobiles, email or file saving is allowed during the exam.

1. The ASX and ACH Responsible Executives Exam

PDF ASX/ACH Exam Syllabus

This examination covers the ASX Market Rules, ACH Clearing Rules, ASTC Settlement Rules as well as relevant sections of the Corporations Act.

This exam is beneficial to anyone who conducts business related to trading, clearing and settlement in ASX markets and requires knowledge of all aspects of those operations. The exam will also assist those seeking a broader Responsible Executive role. This exam is mandatory for persons intending to be Responsible Executives for both a Participant’s market, and clearing & settlement operations.

Exam content

The content of this exam is drawn from the ASX RE exam and the ACH RE exam.

The exam is broken down into 11 modules with 4 questions being asked in each module and 1 compulsory question (ie 45 questions in total).

Exam format

  • Online exam consisting of 45 questions
  • 1 hour duration
  • Multiple choice, closed book.

A minimum of 30 correct answers is required for successful completion. 

2. The ASX Markets Responsible Executives Exam

PDF ASX RE Exam Syllabus

This examination covers the ASX Market Rules and relevant sections of the Corporations Act. It is designed to assess knowledge of the rules governing the markets operated by the ASX and competency in their application.

This exam is beneficial to anyone who conducts business in or related to ASX’s markets. The exam will also assist those seeking a broader Responsible Executive role. This exam is mandatory for persons intending to be Responsible Executives for an ASX Participant’s market operations for the purpose of the ASX Market Rules.

Exam content

The exam is broken down into 10 modules with 4 questions being asked in each module and 1 compulsory question (ie 41 questions in total).

Exam format

  • Online exam consisting of 41 questions
  • 1 hour duration
  • Multiple choice, closed book.

A minimum of 27 correct answers is required for successful completion.

3. The ASX Markets Responsible Executives Principal Trader only Exam

PDF ASX RE/PT Exam Syllabus

This examination covers the ASX Market Rules and relevant sections of the Corporations Act affecting ASX Principal Trader only Participants. It is designed to assess knowledge of the rules governing the markets operated by the ASX and competency in their application.

This exam is beneficial to anyone who conducts business related to ASX’s markets as Principal. The exam will also assist those seeking a broader Responsible Executive role. This exam is mandatory for persons intending to be Responsible Executives for an ASX Participant’s market operations for the purpose of the ASX Market Rules where the Participant conducts only principal (ie no agency) business.

Exam format

  • Online exam consisting of 40 questions
  • 1 hour duration
  • Multiple choice, closed book.

A minimum of 27 correct answers is required for successful completion.

4. The ACH Clearing and Settlement Responsible Executives Exam

This examination covers the ACH Clearing Rules and ASTC Settlement Rules and relevant sections of the Corporations Act. It is designed to assess knowledge of the rules governing the clearing and settlement facilities operated by ACH and ASTC and competency in their application.

This exam is beneficial to anyone who conducts business related to clearing and settlement. The exam will also assist those seeking a broader Responsible Executive role. This exam is mandatory for persons intending to be Responsible Executives for an ACH Participant’s clearing and settlement operations for the purpose of the ACH Clearing Rules.

Exam content

The exam is broken down into 8 modules with 5 questions being asked in each module and 1 compulsory question (ie 41 questions in total).

Exam format

  • Online exam consisting of 41 questions
  • 1 hour duration
  • Multiple choice, closed book.

A minimum of 27 correct answers is required for successful completion.

How to Prepare for an RE Exam

Before attempting an RE exam, candidates should review the exam syllabus and read the relevant rules and sections of the Corporations Act, Corporations Regulations and ASIC Act.

Exam Fees

The fee for each RE Exam and resit exam is $350. Please see the RE Exam Application Form for charges and conditions related to cancellation and exam resits.

Refunds for cancelled applications will only be considered within 1 month of submitting the RE Exam Application form and a $100 administration fee will be charged.
