Introduction to Banking in Australia
|
The Australian banking sector dominates the Australian financial system with large Australian banks accounting for 70% of total banking sector assets. Regional banks have grown in importance, and along with non-bank lenders, finance companies, credit unions and foreign banks, compete for business traditionally in the domain of the large banks. As the population ages and banks look to diversify their income and lower their reliance on the credit cycle, wealth management has become a key focus. This valuable short course explores the Australian banking sector, the environment in which it operates and the major influences that have an impact on its performance.
