Prerequisites

To be awarded the Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning), the Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) (DFS(FP)) (FNS50804) must first be completed.

You may enrol in individual subjects within the Advanced Diploma irrespective of whether you have completed the requirements of the DFS(FP), however, completion of the DFS(FP) is advisable. Kaplan Professional also recommends that Financial Plan Construction and Review should be the last subject undertaken.

Qualification duration and delivery

A typical study commitment is 60 hours per subject and may vary depending on your capacity for study. Pre-study of learning material is essential prior to workshops.

This qualification can be studied by either:

  • Self-study – Delivered via distance education, all subjects are self-contained with all the materials and resources needed to complete the subject easily by self-study. Subjects can be commenced in the self-study mode at any time. The only requirement is for assignments to be submitted no later than four months from enrolment (or six months from enrolment for FPC) and first exams to be completed within six months of enrolment, or 
  • Intensive workshop – If a more structured learning environment is preferred, each subject is also available in a traditional classroom setting. This involves a period of essential pre-study followed by the actual workshop. Semesters are flexible with workshops being run continuously throughout the year.
  • Workshops are conducted over three days with the exam taking place either on the morning of the fourth day or at a later arranged time. The exception is FPC which is a two-day workshop but with no exam.

Assessment

To complete each of the subjects, you must successfully complete the:

  • Assignment, and
  • Exam (except for FPC)

If you wish to exit after one subject with a Statement of Attainment instead of completing the whole qualification, a skills assessment must also be completed.

If you are unsuccessful in an assessment (Not yet competent), you will have the opportunity to:

  • Resit the exam (twice)
  • Resubmit  the assignment (once), please see the Assessment Policy for further details

Qualification Fees

Costs vary depending on your choice of self-study or intensive workshop study.

Self-study:

  • Standard fee: $695 per subject
  • Finsia member: $625 per subject

Intensive workshop:

  • Total fee: $1,250 per subject
    ($695 per subject + $555 intensive workshop fee)
  • Finsia member: $1,130 per subject
    ($625 per subject + $505 intensive workshop fee)

Advanced Diploma Skills Assessment

  • With client assessor held at client premises: $130 per assessment
  • With a Kaplan assessor held at a Kaplan office: $245 per assessment
  • With a Kaplan assessor held at the client’s premises: $365 per assessment

Enrolment fee covers all subject materials, assignment marking, first sit examination supervision (if at Kaplan offices), examination marking and final certification upon successful subject completion.
