FNS40804 Certificate IV in Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Broking)


On 1 July 2010 the Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) commenced regulation of consumer credit and finance broking under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009.

New students
If you are going to practise as a Mortgage/Finance Brokers in WA, the licensing requirements for Western Australia no longer apply.  The consumer credit reform is a national regime; this means that all students will be required to study the Mortgage Broking subject.

Current students
If you are enrolled in the Finance Broking subject (which contains the WA licensing requirements module) you will be contacted shortly in relation to how you are affected by this change.

Who Should Enrol

This qualification is recognised by the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) as entry level training and is ideal for:

  • aspiring finance/mortgage brokers
  • those seeking to achieve Accredited Mortgage Consultant (AMC) status

What would I achieve upon completion?

Upon successful completion this qualification, you should be able to:

  • understand the critical functions of a finance or mortgage broker
  • understand the regulatory framework surrounding the industry
  • gain exposure to various loan products
  • gain AMC status (note: other requirements must also be met, see MFAA website for further details)
  • attain a qualification that is recognised by industry bodies including the MFAA, the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) and the Australian Institute of Mortgage Brokers (AIMB).

Qualification duration and delivery

This qualification is delivered via self-study with face-to-face Focus Sessions available on demand.

Subjects are self-contained with all the materials and resources needed to complete the subjects easily by self-study. Subjects can be commenced in the self-study mode at any time.

The only requirement is for assignments to be submitted no later than four months from enrolment and you have up to six months from enrolment to sit the final open-book exam.

 We can schedule Focus Sessions based on demand. If you are interested in attending a  session, please complete this expression of interest form.

Assessment

To complete the subject, you must successfully complete:

  • an assignment
  • an exam

If you are unsuccessful in an assessment (Not yet competent), you will have the opportunity to:

  • Resubmit your assignment (once), please see the Assessment Policy for further details.
  • Resit the exam (twice).
