Operational Risk Management (FIN219) Task Force
This elective subject is designed for students who wish to specialise in banking. Operational risk management is still evolving and developing however, with globalisation, deregulation and advances in technology, operational risk now commands significant attention, particularly in banking. This subject provides an overview of the risk management process and demonstrates how operational risk management should be embedded within the day-to-day operations of an organisation.

Career Overview
Mark has worked for a number of financial industry firms in the UK, Japan and Australia including Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Barclays Capital, Credit Suisse First Boston, Abbey PLC and the National Australia Bank. His financial services experience includes auditing, investment bank operations, IT, finance, regulatory compliance and risk management.
Mark's roles at the various firms have been global in their coverage and this has given him considerable experience throughout Europe, the US and Asia, including a number of postings in various geographies.
Mark has written a number of articles in the risk space following major frauds and key operational risk events, and in his early days in risk was involved in undertaking a number of detailed investigations.
Current Responsibilities
Mark Linter is currently the Head of Risk for Group Development and New Business at the National Australia Bank, reviewing all acquisitions and major equity investments. This follows 2.5 years as the Head of Qualitative Operational Risk Management culminating in the achievement of APRA AMA accreditation. He has over 20 years experience in the financial services industry developing risk management frameworks, engaging senior management in a focus on cultural shift, and focusing on the protection of firms against major operational risk exposures and events. |
