The Business Valuation Specialisation is offered to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand members via two pathways.
On successful completion of the pathway and assessment, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand members will be eligible to apply for the award of Business Valuation Specialist through the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Completion of four compulsory postgraduate subjects:
This pathway is available to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand members who can demonstrate a minimum of two years of practical Business Valuation experience within the previous five years, where at least 20% of employment was related to business valuations and an additional 20% was related to the valuations field of work.
On completion of these four compulsory subjects together with four Higher Education Subject Exemptions (for current Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand members who have completed the CA program) a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance will be awarded.
The fee per subject for 2017 is $2,325.
Pathway two is available to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand members who can demonstrate a minimum of four (4) years of practical business valuations experience within the previous 10 years, where at least 20% of employment was related to business valuations and an additional 20% was related to the valuations field of work.
The course is offered in two formats, as an online self-study mode and two-day mode.
Please note: pre-registration with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand is essential for both.
Online self-study mode –
An online self-study course is available. The course fee includes course materials (available online), access to Kaplan’s Business Valuation LearningSpace forum and assessment.

Candidates will have access to course materials when the online course commences.
Two-day intensive workshops will be offered in 2017 in Sydney provided there is a minimum number of registered participants per workshop.
Workshops are facilitated by leading valuation experts. The fee includes workshop attendance (including catering), course materials (provided at the workshop and available online), access to Kaplan’s Business Valuation LearningSpace forum and assessment.
$2,250* including GST.
Numbers are restricted so please register early to secure your place. This will be confirmed when payment is received. When minimum registrations are not achieved and a workshop is cancelled, those registered will be offered a free transfer to an alternative workshop or to the online course.
The exam assessment is available as the default assessment option. This consists of a 3 hour written exam to assess your understanding of the course material.
Please note that the pass mark for the exam is 65%.
Portfolio assessment is available for those who wish to demonstrate their expertise as an alternative to the written assessment. This will be in the form of an interview plus presentation of a portfolio of evidence of valuation expertise that meets the learning outcomes of the workshop and online content.
