Designed to enhance a student’s understanding of the three main financial statements namely the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement.
This subject examines and explains, using examples, financial statements and analysis methods for a company. It is also designed to enhance a student’s understanding of the main financial statements namely the statement of profit or loss, the statement of financial position, cash flow statement and statement of comprehensive income.
This information is then broken down into ratio analysis; the techniques used in analysing the financial position of a company and, having gained that knowledge then to assist in interpreting current and potential future performance.
Integral to these course objectives is students will gain an understanding of profit, cashflow and other major accounting issues.
The course would be particularly useful for those already experienced in retail mortgage and/or financial planning who now wish to deepen their knowledge of the considerations required when providing finance to companies and businesses.

Students have a total of 12 weeks to complete all the assessment requirements for Understanding and Analysing Financial Statements.
This subject will take you between 15 and 25 hours to complete, depending on your experience in the financial services industry.
This course has no entry requirements however because of the depth of the material covered would be more suitable to those who already have had some experience in finance such as bank lenders, mortgage brokers or financial planners.
This subject is delivered in a blended mode that includes a set of hard-copy study notes and online learning and assessment.
The online environment is called KapLearn. Assessment activities are accessed through KapLearn. Students will also find their study notes and other learning resources in electronic formats in Kaplearn.
Kaplan estimates that completion of this course it is equivalent of 16 CPD hours.
No exemptions are available for this course.
For each of the seven topics, there is an unsupervised open book multiple choice quiz containing eight questions relating to that topic.
Students may attempt each quiz at any time before the conclusion of their 12 week study period if they think they are adequately prepared.
We recommend students complete each topic and relative quiz in order as they progress through the subject.
