Topic overview

This topic prepares advisers with practical tools to navigate ethical dilemmas in advice settings. Through real-world scenarios and reflective activities, advisers will build confidence applying the Financial Planners and Advisers Code of Ethics 2019 (Code of Ethics), managing professional judgement, and making sound ethical decisions.

  2. Apply ethical values in practice
  3. Use the Code of Ethics to resolve dilemmas
  4. Manage ethical risks, and
  5. Implement ethical decision-making frameworks.

Structure and duration

This topic is designed to be completed over six (6) weeks, with up to 12 weeks’ access provided to allow for flexibility.

Participants receive 20 hours of structured training per topic. For new entrants under the FAS requirements, these topics form a core part of the 100 hours of structured learning required during the Professional Year.

Advisers who successfully complete all requirements of the topic will be awarded a certificate of completion.

There are no specific due dates for activities. Advisers progress, complete and submit activities as they go. However, it is recommended that each activity be completed according to order laid out.
