Want to grow professionally but do not come from a finance background?

At some point in your career, technical expertise will not be enough.

To move into leadership roles, influence decisions, or manage larger responsibilities, you need to understand how organisations actually measure performance.

This workshop helps you build practical financial literacy that underpins commercial credibility. Delivered over three (3) hours, this workshop provides a practical introduction to the key financial statements used to analyse the financial position of an organisation. Participants will develop foundational skills in interpreting financial information and applying introductory financial ratios using real public company examples.

This workshop covers the main financial statements that can be used to analyse the financial position of an organisation, including:

  • Statement of profit and loss
  • Statement of financial position
  • Cash flow statement
  • Statement of comprehensive income

This is a structured workshop designed to meet continuing professional development (CPD) requirements across a range of Australian professions. A certificate of completion with contact hours will be provided. Participants should confirm eligibility with their professional body.

Workshop outcomes

On successful completion of this workshop, participants will have covered how to:

  • Identify and explain the purpose and key components of the financial statements used to assess the financial position of an organisation
  • Read and interpret basic financial information in financial statements
  • Explain the three stages of the analysis process, how ratios are used, and their limitations
  • Apply selected financial ratios to analyse profitability, liquidity and gearing at an introductory level, using public company examples
  • Understand the key differences between return on assets (ROA) and return on investment (ROI)

Who should attend?

This interactive workshop is ideal for professionals who want to grow their careers but may not have a finance background.

It is particularly suited to:

  • Emerging and aspiring leaders
  • Those responsible for budgets or business performance
  • Professionals seeking a move into more commercially focused roles such as project management (not necessarily in the finance sector)
  • High-performing technical specialists seeking broader business understanding
  • Anyone who wants to feel more confident in financial conversations
