When studying with Kaplan Professional, you’ll be accessing a range of information, resources, and services through our online learning platforms. To help you get the best experience, we recommend having some basic computing equipment and software.

The table below outlines our recommended requirements. These align with the technologies we officially support, helping to ensure compatibility and a smooth learning experience.

Quick setup steps

  • Open your system’s “About” or “System Settings.”
  • Ensure it’s one of the latest two releases of Windows or macOS.
  • Go to speedtest.net, run a test.
  • If speeds are below 1.5 Mbps down or 1 Mbps up, try a wired connection or a different network.

Google Chrome:

  • Click the three dots in the top-right corner → Help → About Google Chrome → Chrome will automatically check for updates and install them → Click Relaunch if prompted.

Microsoft Edge:

  • Click the three dots in the top-right corner → Help and feedback → About Microsoft Edge → Edge will automatically check for updates and install them → Restart the browser if needed.

Safari (Mac only):

  • Safari updates are included with macOS updates. Go to System Settings → General → Software Update to check for the latest version of macOS and Safari.
  • If you don’t have one, enable Windows Defender or macOS built-in protection, or install a free tool.
  • Check that it’s running real-time scans.
  • Plug in or use your built-in microphone.
  • Open your device’s recorder (Voice Recorder/QuickTime), record a short clip, and play it back.
  • Download any free scientific calculator app (smartphone or desktop).
  • Confirm it has exponentiation (xʸ or ^).
  • Attach or open your computer’s built-in camera.
  • Test in a video-chat app to confirm framing and clarity.
