FIN101 introduces the structure and functions of Australian financial markets and examines how economic developments influence market performance. Students develop an understanding of core economic principles, the role of central banks, and major asset classes including equities, foreign exchange, commodities, derivatives and managed funds.

The subject also examines financial intermediaries, government policy, and regulatory frameworks that support market integrity and stability. With a global perspective, students explore international financial integration, cross-border capital flows, and the role of regulation in interconnected markets. Ethical considerations are embedded throughout, supporting responsible and informed financial decision making.

A scenario based case study enables students to apply these concepts to real world market events, building practical insight and a strong foundation for further study in applied finance.
